Patrick Cowley (1950-1982) got his start playing drums in various teenage rock groups, in the early 70’s he moved from Upstate New York to San Francisco where he studied music, specifically the use of synthesizers. By the mid 70’s he was establishing himself as a producer, song writer and musician in the disco scene.

Initially known as Lesser Man, they settled on the name Catholic. Unfortunately, Cowley’s manager refused to back releasing the material (“too weird” apparently). Jorge split for London while Cowley stayed in San Francisco working as a professional musician. The two reconvened in 1979 and re-recorded their songs which were once rejected and would not see the light of day for another 30 years. 1981 Cowley became ill and was eventually hospitalized. For a time, he was healthy enough to leave hospital for a short time in which he and Sylvester smashed out “Do You Wanna Funk”.

In the October of 1982 his third album “Mind Warp” released, he also celebrated his 32nd birthday. On November 12, 1982 Pat-rick Cowley left this world.

Bobbi Campbell (1954-1984) was the 16th person in San Francisco to be diagnosed with Kaposis Sacoma. Almost immediately he sprang into action distributing leaflets in the Castro to raise awareness of the looming health crisis. In December of that year he wrote a piece for the San Francisco Sentinel, which marked the first time a person suffering from what is now termed A.I.D.S. declared to the public their illness.

Bobbi’s determination to live was expressed perfectly by a button he happened across shortly after his diagnosis: a battle axe with the words “I Will Survive”. He wore it every day, even when in drag as his alter ego Sister Florence Nightmare as part of the the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.
